When a new attacher (a fiber provider, cable company, or wireless carrier) wants to place equipment on poles owned by an electric utility or telephone company, federal law requires a formal process. The pole owner must evaluate whether the pole can handle the additional load, whether existing attachments are in compliance, and what modifications are needed before the new attachment can be installed.
The make ready survey is the field data collection phase of that process. Trained engineers and technicians walk the proposed route, inspect each pole, measure existing attachments, assess structural capacity, and document everything needed to produce a make ready engineering report.
Why Make Ready Surveys Are Required
